Sign a PDF

Signing a PDF used to be the most awkward operation in office work: print it, sign it, scan it, hope the scanner didn't cut off the bottom edge, then email the scan back. Then a wave of online tools moved the workflow to the browser — but most of them ask you to upload your signed contracts, ID forms, and NDAs to a server you do not control, which is exactly the kind of document you might prefer to keep on your own machine.

yourpdfeditor signs PDFs entirely in your browser. The PDF and the signature image are composited together in JavaScript, the modified file is built in memory, and the result is downloaded back to your computer. No upload, no account, no watermark on the output, and no “processed by” stamp added to your document.

The signature itself can be drawn (with mouse, trackpad, or stylus), typed in a handwriting-style font, or imported from a PNG you saved earlier. Once placed on the page, you can drag, resize, and rotate the signature until it sits naturally on the signature line, then save the signed PDF.

A common worry: “is this signature actually valid?” In nearly every jurisdiction, the answer is yes for ordinary agreements. The U.S. ESIGN Act and most state-level UETA laws recognize an electronic signature as binding so long as both parties intend to sign and there is a record of the transaction. The EU's eIDAS regulation classifies what this tool produces as a “simple electronic signature” (SES), which has legal effect across the EU.

What you get here is a visual electronic signature: an image of your handwriting placed on the PDF page. It is appropriate for contractor invoices, NDAs, rental applications, permission slips, vendor onboarding forms, internal approvals, consent forms, and the long tail of everyday paperwork.

When you need something stronger — a notarized contract, a qualified electronic signature (QES) under eIDAS, a real estate closing in some states, or anything tied to identity verification with a certificate authority — use a dedicated provider that issues certificates and produces an audit trail (DocuSign, Adobe Sign, your country's eID service, etc.). yourpdfeditor does not try to compete with those services.

• Sign on the largest screen you have. A signature drawn on a phone looks shakier than one drawn on a tablet or laptop trackpad. If you have an iPad or Surface, use that.
• Match the signature size to the signature line. Resize the placed signature so the bottom of the strokes touches the printed line in the PDF. Oversized signatures look like they were dropped in.
• Use black for the stroke color. Black scans and prints best. Blue is fine if the surrounding form is also blue.
• Save your signature as a PNG once. Then re-import it next time. The same signature on every contract looks more legitimate than a fresh drawing each time.
• Add the date. Even though the file timestamp records when you signed, a visible date next to your signature is conventional and reassuring to the other party.
